A misconfigured telephone system will open the doors for people with the right knowledge to make long distance or premium rate calls at your organisation's expense. Naturally most organisations try to configure their telephone system to prevent this but a second line of defence can give you that extra peace of mind and could help you to reduce any potential costs incurred through fraud. There are a number of ways that you can check for the presence of phone fraud:

  1. Check you carrier phone bill. Any huge increases in spending may or may not be spotted but by this time the damage has been done and further costs could be on the way.

  2. Call logging report from batch collected data. A better choice than waiting for the phone bill but since the data is not collected live and you need to remember to run the report, it still may be too late. Also you may need to search through reports to manually find the fraud and this is time consuming. Using the SwitchGuard module for our Eclipse CMS call logger, you could get the software to search for fraud automatically.

  3. Call logging report from live data. Again the downside is remembering to run the report and searching through it. SwitchGuard will automatically monitor the converted live call records looking for signs of potential fraud. It will then notify you with details of the event so that you can take an appropriate response.

  4. Live monitoring using the Tracker Management Platform. Using an application on our Tracker Management Platform, you can bypass the call logger and establish an independent direct link to the telephone system. The Tracker will then monitor the stream of live call records as they are sent from the switch. If any suspicious fraudulent activity is detected, the Tracker will notify you.

    The Tracker system is easily installed, runs automatically 24 hours a day and needs very little attention. The system checks not only individual calls but it can also look for call patterns both in and out of normal working hours. An alarm can be delivered by email, pager, SMS or to one or more central monitoring services.

Call Detection
Our phone fraud products can be programmed to detect a whole variety of different calls and calling patterns by time of day, day of week and rate of occurrence. Examples include:

  • premium rate numbers
  • international calls
  • tandem calls
  • calls to specific numbers
  • calls transferred from voicemail
  • calls to / from DISA port
  • long duration calls
  • short duration calls (war dialling)
  • calls outside office hours

Telephone Systems Supported
The SwitchGuard module is compatible with any configuration supported under Eclipse CMS, including logical and cluster site groupings. The Tracker Phone Fraud System can be used on most popular telephone systems and works with both IP and legacy systems.
